ENDORSEMENTS & COMMENTS

We would like to thank you very much for your help, knowledge and understanding of our situation in getting another Small Munsterlander puppy. For those who are contemplating getting a puppy from Mustains I would say do it now. Our Zoni is my second SM. My first one had a very tragic accident last year. Heart broken and depressed I started thinking about a replacement. I checked with many breeders and their upcoming litters were spoken for. Thinking I may have to wait a year wasn't setting well with me. I needed to fill the void. I contacted John and Sande Mustain and explained my situation and need. They informed me they may indeed have a pup available, from a proven pair of their dogs with outstanding pedigrees. I was ecstatic. The 5 months couldn't go by fast enough. John and Sande kept us updated on the pregnancy and sent numerous informative emails about the breed and training. When the litter arrived we were sent weekly pictures and progress reports. We got the little girl we wanted, she's everything and them some. A gorgeous, smart, and funny little girl. She is bold and very outgoing. She fit right in with my Labrador and from what I've seen so far with be an outstanding hunter and family dog. Pretty sure my wife loves her more than me. My first SM was just a one person dog unless I was gone. This girl has bonded quickly with the both of us. My wife loves her so much I got the green light to get another puppy this winter. Needless to say another Mustain Small Munsterlander. Can hardly wait to be chasing birds behind these two next fall at our farm in South Dakota. I can't say enough good about Mustain Kennels, and John and Sande. Top notch kennel and people.

We took Rupert to meet Dad's dogs over the 4th of July weekend, and he and Tilly hit it off right away. He even wore down our old and crabby lab by the end of the weekend. He was great with the other dogs (slightly submissive on first contact, then confident and playful after) and was perfect with our 4 and 5 year old niece and nephew. He really scaled down his energy and softened his approach with the little ones- my niece has officially sworn her allegiance to Rupert over Tilly 🙂

We took him down to the lake with Tilly and he ended up jumping right in after her, swimming out 10-15 yards before making a turn and coming back. He is just so politely inquisitive with every person/ dog that walks by our little front yard and he's already responding incredibly well to come, sleeping almost entirely through the night, and has only had 4-5 accidents in the house since we brought him home. He's comfortable enough in the house that he's finally started chewing things he shouldn't, but he responds very well to light reprimands and has only damaged a few potted plants. On a walk a few nights ago, we inadvertently stumbled across a group of 5-6 dogs (mostly hunting breeds) playing in a local park and Rupert joined in the play before we could get his leash back on- within 5 minutes every dog was following him around trying to play and every dog owner was trying to coax the beautiful little spotted dog over so they could play with him. I'm sure none of this comes as a surprise to you after raising so many litters and having your own Mustain Munsterlanders in the house, but we just can't believe our luck of having found him. I just want to reiterate how grateful we are that you worked to get us a pup in this litter. He's already cemented himself as a part of our family, and I just can't wait to see him grow into the hunting and life companion we know he'll be!

"We recently got Charlie (Jaeger from the J-Litter) from Mustain Kennels back in December of 2018. We are absolutely thrilled with our experience with Mustain Kennels! John and Sande truly go above and beyond with the care and nurture that they give to their litters. We were very impressed with the amount of research and dedication that goes into their breeding program, and the results are clearly evident in the quality of their dogs.

Sande is so great about sending out frequent updates on the litters, and it allows you to feel like you are a part of their journey. We are so happy with Charlie! He is very smart and bold in the field, and he is also a great companion at home. We would recommend Mustain Kennels to everyone that is looking for a Small Munsterlander!"

"An update on Millie (Dakota from D litter). Millie has completed two hunting seasons now. She spent time with a trainer here in Southern Arizona and follow on training with the local NAVHDA chapter. She has a great nose to go along with her great disposition. I have shot 250 plus birds over her including four species of quail, chukar and pheasant. She is also a favorite of the US Fish and Wildlife biologist working the re-introduction of the endangered Masked Bobwhite Quail. Millie is used to find released birds and instill a fear of predators without causing harm to the birds as she is very steady on point.

Millie has impressed my hunting partners with her nose and steadiness. She often hunts with a pair of German Shorthairs and keeps up stride for stride although she works a little closer and regularly checks back in. She gets along equally well in our Arizona 110 deg summer days and did well in near freezing November water in South Dakota. Millie is wonderful in the house and has no trouble turning off her high energy to be a couch potato.

John and Sande clearly breed intelligent dogs full of natural ability. I would buy from them again in a heartbeat."
He’s doing really well and is everything we could have hoped for! Thank you so much!"

"Greta’s first hunt and she did great on the Chuckers. Six birds pointed, five retrieves and Dad let her down on one bird. She’s growing into a long and lanky very spoiled girl, everything we wanted. Thank you so much."

"Just had to let you know Lee took Finn to Mosers Pheasant Creek in New Franklin MO today, It was his first live bird hunt. Lee called me and said we have a bird dog!!! Finn was incredible, solid points, good retrieves, great on cripple recovery! He even impressed Mike Moser who had never seen a Small Munsterlander work. Mike was in the store when we first got Finn and asked Lee what is that? (Well now he knows what a Munsterlander can do and he was impressed). Thanks again for such a wonderful pup!"

"If you want a versatile hunting dog that will literally hunt anything look up Mustain Kennels - this little girl (Roxy) just did a blind retrieve from 150 yards an amazing amount of drive in these munsterlanders!!! What a way to end the year."

"A quick brag…took Ally on a hunt with people I didn’t know. Friend of a friend deal that they are pretty picky on (he must have lied about me). It was chasing wild quail in SC KS. I warned them that I didn’t know how she would do but she wouldn’t mess anything up.

It was just Ally and a male GSP (the local dog her age but gets a lot of work) and 5 hunters (again they are picky). She did great. She pointed coveys, singles and found downed birds in weeds, under trees and buried in the sand. I just let her do her thing which was great too. No yelling her name or wondering where she was. Towards the end of the first day, I thanked the farmer who had the GSP and he said, ‘you’re welcome that’s the best new dog anyone has brought out here’. I said that I was proud of her and glad she helped. He went further and said a lot of guys have come down bragging about their dogs and they didn’t do half of what Ally did. She is so easy to control – just her name and she comes and will hunt downed birds for a long time.

On Sunday we walked a long water way up and all hunters could see the dogs and Ally hammers a point – straight tall and standing tall. Everyone stops (and I am like please let there be birds). I kick the cover for 5 yards around her no birds…we start walking again she releases and runs 15 yards up and bam again this time lower and intense. This time 2 steps and out jumps the 15 bird covey. As we end that walk I again thank the guy and he reminds what he said the day before and said ‘that dog is welcome anytime what she did on that last covey was beautiful and she did every bit as good as my dog over the two days’. That was pretty sweet.

We split a couple Braums burgers on the way home as she slept in the front seat. I figured she would sleep the rest of the night but as I was cleaning out the truck I left the tailgate open and we couldn’t find Ally. I went back to the truck and she must have jumped through the back and was laying on the driver seat. Wendy ask what in the world she was doing and all I could figure was that if I was going back hunting she didn’t want to be left.

Thought I would share."

"Sande & John, I just wanted to send you out a quick email thanking you for all your help throughout the whole puppy purchase process we feel extremely lucky to have found Mustain Kennels. As for Swish I can not say enough on how happy we are with her, our car ride went great she was very calm no whining no accidents simply put perfect!

She has got to be the most calm, gentle, loved to be held puppy I have ever met. We are having no house potty issues and she is sleeping in her kennel with the door open in my daughters room all night without issue. We kept to feeding her three times a day and she has goes poop at 6:00 Am and 3:00 PM every day. I will keep you and John posted. Thanks!"

"Donna and I are thrilled with our Small Munsterlander puppy we received from Mustain Kennels. Millie has a great bloodline and is clearly a well adjusted young dog. We met John and Sande along with their dogs at Pheasant Fest in Kansas City and put our name on a waiting list. Communication with John and Sande has been excellent.

When we picked up Millie, we were able to see their clean and well maintained kennel facilities as well as the care and love they provide their dogs. They are clearly caring and dedicated breeders that put the welfare of their dogs on the top of their to-do list."

"It's easy for me to write a recommendation for Mustain Kennels. Moonie is absolutely perfect. I believe that is the result of excellent breeding (you can't make a silk purse from a sows ear) but also the lovely environment.

You know how to do "litters." Moonie had a sweet mother, her litter mates, grown dogs, a home with treats, a kennel and a yard the size of Texas. She thrived and came ready to bloom."

"I recently purchased a Small Munsterlander pup from Mustain Kennels and throughout the process, I was kept informed about the pregnancy and its progress. I appreciated that info!

John and Sande were great help in arranging pickup of pup. A classy and caring operation with great dogs! If in the market for one of these, I can wholeheartedly recommend this kennel and its owners."

"When I first contacted John and Sande Mustain I was full of specific questions about Small Munsterlanders and they didn’t know me from Adam. Nevertheless, they took the time to patiently answer every question and keep me informed as to the timing of potential litters and traits they expected from specific pairings. We were always communicated with in the warmest fashion and that solidified our feeling that Mustain Kennels was the right source for us.

When it finally came to be our turn to get a Mustain pup Sande kept us in the loop and informed from the day the pups were born until the day we picked our boy up, and he is a stunning dog. When it came time to fly out to pick him up John and Sande welcomed me into their home like a friend and were very generous with their time and knowledge, even sending me off with a thoughtful and unexpected care package. I also got to watch as Sande kept track of the puppies that had already shipped off, making sure they landed safely and on time with no glitches, and most importantly with no undue trauma. The joy they get from their dogs is palpable as is the hope that you walk away with the same joy and passion about your Small Munsterlander when you take one of their pups home.

Whenever possible, our dealings in the world of Small Munsterlanders will include or funnel through Mustain Kennels from here on out. The world of Small Munsterlander breeders in the U.S. is small and conscientious, they all seem to hold one another to high standards. Mustain Kennels upholds that standard with not just discipline and pride, but love and joy as well. We couldn’t be more pleased."

"Thank you very much for your follow up. I will wait for your pups to be available. You are very thorough and you have great follow up. I really feel that this will be reflected in the quality of your dogs!!!!"

"Munsters are definitely #1 on my list, and Mustain Kennels is too. Your prompt, thorough and caring responses make me feel very confident about the care you put into your dogs."

Gordon M.

"Thank you for taking the time to speak with me yesterday about the possibility of getting an SM pup. Even though you did not have any available, your referral to Kris Hill was phenomenal. She did have a female available and we will get her tomorrow. The fact that you referred me to her shows that SM breeders are a close knit community that really wants to do what is best for the breed, not just what is best for their own pocketbooks!"

Dan M.

"You are the most awesome breeders that I know and your dogs are blessed to be with you. Every single video and post that you make of your dogs show just how much you love them. I have been in rescue work for a very long time and I have seen the good and the bad. Mustain Kennels is awesome!

"I took Ally on a preserve hunt yesterday with a buddy and we had them put quail out and she was so beautiful on point. I have owned a Brittany and a Setter and would put that against any of them. Ally was so intense. There were some quail in standing milo that were running like crazy. She would hold a point until I fully kicked in front of her and verbally released her and then she would chase them down and do it (sometimes pointing the same bird 3 or 4 times) again until we got them up.

I know breed comparisons are difficult but Ally has had far less formal training than the other two dogs that were sent away for a couple months each to "schoool". Whatever she was born with sure has worked. She is my first dog that will hunt downed game effectively and is the easiest dog to manage in the field. I rarely direct or talk and just let her do her thing as her distance and checking in manners are awesome."
